 Statement

  • I am a classroom teacher, recently retired
  • My wife is a retired high school English teacher

 I have:

  • a B.A. in History and an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction
  • 30 years of public school teaching in California
  • Taught in 3 different districts in Southern California
  • Taught in comprehensive high schools, continuation school and junior high
  • Taught world and U.S. history as well as computers and metalworking

 As an experienced educator, I:

  • Served on 3 different WASC visiting teams evaluating schools in Southern California
  • Coached wrestling in both Elsinore and Fallbrook
  • Developed standards-based instructional programs for my history students.
  • Developed an innovative individual learning program for low-achieving students
  • Was teacher of the month in Fallbrook 5 times.

As a professional educator in Fallbrook, I:

  • Was sponsor of Students Against Drunk Driving
  • Was President of the Fallbrook High School Teachers’ Association twice
  • Was Director of the Senior Projects (which had a community service component).
  • Was co-founder and co-director of the Academies program
  • Was Fallbrook’s Digital High School Coordinator and developed, coordinated and taught technology training programs for teachers
  • Served for 5 years as a teacher on special assignment whose duties included training of teachers and integrating technology into their lesson plans.
  • Was chairman of the Technology Committee since its inception in 2000.

I know from experience, that most high school graduates do not go immediately to 4 year universities.  Most of them attend community college to:

  • Gather low cost credits to transfer to a 4 year institution

  • Develop vocational skills which are used in local businesses

Therefore, the Grossmont and Cuyamaca community colleges are vital to our local economy and culture.   I am a good listener and negotiator, and try to reach consensus in solving every problem.
